AMT IS BLOOMING

There is a small garden outside our beautiful theater and thanks to Pete Dorton's green thumbs, care and investment in making that garden bloom it has transformed from a patch of earth (dirt) with a lovely tree to an actual garden. This desire to make it a flower filled space started last year and as with anything it has required care and commitment - which Pete has shown it and the fruits of his labours are blossoming this week. Shout out to Sharon for helping Pete with the physical labour of digging and planting the second phase of plants from the first round planted last year. Thank you to everyone who donated money specifically for the garden. It is wonderful walking past and soaking up the flowers and greenery, there are even some rose buds just starting to flower and we have all been so excited about this small development!

Also, thank you to Tamara for decorating the tree with her theater masks. Our little garden space is truly an extension of AMT Theater.

Am I going to use the garden as a metaphor for AMT...YES, of course I am because it's right there. AMT is 5 years old this year and we are growing and blossoming more with every year that we survive. I use survive intentionally, because goodness it is a struggle to keep the doors open and the space looking gorgeous. It requires an immense amount of love and effort, which we give willingly because much like seeing those rose bushes start to bloom we love seeing how AMT supports artists/performers/writers/designers and technical crews. Our mission is to support the development of new works, which is vital to the continuation of all shows, so we keep working and growing and finding ways to survive the current economic climate.

Much like when Pete planted the bulbs in the fall last year and then nothing happened until spring...and gosh was it a long winter and all I wanted was to see the flowers, but in the end it was worth the wait, like it always is - so we began planting the seeds of our work 5 years ago and now we are starting to see the sustained growth of our efforts. Although, the institutional knowledge brought to AMT is decades long and many of the relationships were forged in shows predating this theater, so thank you to everyone who has journeyed with our team over the many iterations of our performance lives, you are part of the AMT family by default and we love your presence and support.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way, helping us to plant the seeds and nurture the growth of theater in NYC. May we continue to tend the garden of new work for another 5 years and another and another.
