NEW YORK SO FAR...

Updated: Aug 11

Hello everyone, I am Sophie from Hungary.

I am a new intern at the AMT Theater. Why did I choose this theater? Well, they seemed nicer than

all the other theaters. I really wanted to see how American theaters work, I wanted to learn about

the culture here. In AMT it is absolutely possible. They mostly do rentals now, so I can see more than

just one show and I can meet with a lot of people. So far, the team (Tony, Zoe, Tamara, Sharon, Joan, Kelly, Pete and all the others) are so nice and very hardworking (and talented for sure).

Besides the theater, I also love New York. Reading in the Central Park or in the Bryant Park is so

refreshing. The view from the Brooklyn Bridge is breathtaking. The Statue of Liberty will always hold

a special place in my heart, because I got engaged there some days ago. So thank you New York.

But now, let’s see what I could already see in the AMT?

Father Anonymous

One day after I have arrived I could catch the closing night of the Father Anonymous. This play was so

informative, especially for me, because I don’t know much about the American history. This play tells

the story of 5 years and focuses on the not so famous participants of the Boston Massacre. I enjoyed

the play, because I couldn’t imagine a drama about war in a small space, but they showed me, that

AMT is the best place for the play. The actors were very talented and young so I am pretty sure we

will hear about all of them later.

Mr. Puppy

In Hungary, we don’t have a lot of new musicals in a year. Maybe one or two, but here, musicals are

everywhere. Mr. Puppy is a cute little show for kids. It shows slices of the world (a little Brazil, a little

Paris, a little Japan) and tries to encourage us, to see that life is not just about work, it has to be

about fun too. As I could hear, the kids loved to explore the world with a puppy. Well I loved explore

the world with a puppy too. I had to realize, that travelling means something else in here. In America

you jump on a plane, fly 5 hours and you are still in the country. In Hungary if you do the same thing,

you just explore the world. (At least Europe.) So for me Mr. Puppy was a great opportunity to learn

how lucky I am, to live in the middle of Europe.

During shows and work days, I had the chance to see Broadway shows and other shows too. I have

got to tell you: The singers are amazing here. Their voices are fabulous. Sunset Boulevard with Nicole

Scherzinger. OH MY GOD! Perfect. The Trophy Boys in MCC Theater. SO SMART. If you haven’t seen it yet, go…NOW. And MJ The Musical. I never had the chance to see Michael Jackson in live, but I think I

got one step closer.:)

Soaking up Broadway shows, SIX!

Broadway Bound Theatre Festival is coming to the AMT Theater, so I will be able to hear 12 new

plays, which is already very exciting.

I am not going to lie, there are difficult days. Like when I can’t find toilette for hours or when there is

no Starbucks on the corner (not happens a lot). But otherwise I love the city. Feel free to tell me the

must sees. Both on stage and in New York. I can’t wait to explore as much of it, as it is possible.

New York and AMT Theater already gave me a lot, so I am very grateful, and I will tell you my stories

from time to time until I am here.
